After my first Total Knee Replacement, my surgeon referred me to Advanced Physical & Sports Therapy because I was not making good progress at two other therapy places. The therapists at Advanced Physical & Sports Therapy practices hands-on manual therapy, with all of their patients.

All of the therapists are highly skilled therapists with either Masters Degrees or Doctorate Degrees. The deep tissue massage they practice is essential for those of us with complications after surgery.

I believe that their constant support and encouragement are the main reasons I have recovered and am now building muscle strength. At Advanced Physical & Sports Therapy I get skilled hands-on deep tissue massage and jont mobilization for one half hour of each appointment followed by various exercises and modalities. Without this combination I would not have recovered with this type of success.

You recommended Physical Therapy to me at my post-surgical appointment and provided me with a reference located on the Skyridge Medical Campus. While I called this facility in addition to several others, I was less than impressed with their willingness and ability to discuss the therapies offered over the phone or to provide any patient- focused attention whatsoever.

I did see Tom Noonan M.D. of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic on March 25th. He left surgery to repair the ruptured ACL up to my discretion. He gave me a prescription for physical therapy which I immediately started. Steve highly recommended Doug Heckenkamp. After seven weeks of therapy with Doug, my knee is very stable and with normal farm-type work I feel there is no compromise in stability or strength.

Let me pass along my recommendation of Doug at Advanced Physical & Sports Therapy. He makes you work hard, and constantly pushing the envelope, although very cognizant of limits. I find him and his work to be very professional and to him I credit my recovery.

I have decided to forgo an ACL operation until I experience a major compromise in my knee. Hopefully that should not happen. If I should decide to play “extreme” sports I may want to try an ACL brace.
